ACTIVATED CHARCOAL ADSORBERS (P62)
Activated charcoal adsorbers are used for the treatment and cleaning of both liquids and
gases. The objective is the removal of undesired substances such as oils and
hydrocarbons or unwanted, in part even poisonous, chemicals and heavy metals from gases
or liquids. The activated charcoal adsorbers are filled with activated charcoal to
accomplish this. The bed of activated charcoal is subjected to a flow from top to
bottom. The best treatment qualities are dependent on the activated charcoal used, an
optimal contact time, the flow rate and the depth of the bed.

LAYER FILTERS (P62)
These layer filters, also referred to as dual or multi-media filters, are used to reduce
the content of suspended solid matter (clouding) in seawater or process water. Suspended
solids consist of small particles such as sludge, clay, grit, organic substances, algae
and other microorganisms. Feed water with a high content of suspended solids can cause a
significant pressure loss and impair the effectivity of downstream systems.
Filtration takes place by physically restraining contaminants in the intermediate spaces
between the granules of the individual filter layers. Regeneration is accomplished by
means of backflushing.
